Candidiasis ( "yeast infection ") is a fungal or yeast infection caused by strains of Candida, usually Candida albicans. However, Candida albicans is a normal thing to have in a healthy vaginal ecosystem. What usually happens is that a woman is prescribed an antibiotic for whatever reason (antibiotics kill bacteria), and it so happens to kill off too much bacteria in the vagina, some of which may have been helping to protect the vagina. This leaves more room for the Candida albercans to take over, which they do. The yeast infection manifests through vaginal discharge that causes itching and irritation, and usually gets worse before a woman's period. The discharge may be watery or thick, but has a white, cottage cheese-like appearance. Women may have more than 4 infections in a year and severe symptoms due to conditions such as diabetes or HIV. Do you need to know medications for it? I don't really know what class you're taking, lol. |
