What are some causes of yeast infections?

Question: What are some causes of yeast infections?

(Posted by: Genna♥ on 2012-01-25 21:33:00)

I am almost 100 % positive I have a yeast infection from my boyfriend fingering me sunday night. My vagina is very itchy, I am peeing really often, it's reddish and has a slight rash, and I'm having weird yellow discharge. I am reading around and it seems that the only way to cure this is to go to a doctor. I can not tell my mom about why I really got this. Seriously it's a very long story but she can NOT know ANYTHING. I'm 15. What are some other causes that I could use as an excuse? Can you get it from tampons, or wearing tight clothing too often, or dirty underwear? I wear a lot of tights. I play volleyball, so lots of spandex. My room is a mess and I'm not good about doing laundry. I never use pads, ever. Can I use some of these things? I know I should probably tell the truth, but I really can't. Please help me? Yeah I understand his hands were probably dirty. I talked to him about it, and I'm not going to let him touch me for a while... and if he ever does I will be making 100 % sure he has washed his hands right before. because honestly this sucks major ass. and it's embarrassing. I feel disgusting.

Being a woman. Lol but seriously, generally its just being dirty down their, and not washing regularly. Unfortunately if its happening after he fingers you, it sounds like he needs to learn to wash his hands...ew. Go pantyless more often to allow it to breath some times, but don't lett it get too sweaty. Cotton clothing helps prevent problems too and moisture wicking synthetics. But im going to say its mostly because of your boyfriends dirty finger. Lost of people wear dirty underwear and that doesn't Always lead to an infection, but putting dirty hands in there? yeah... My girlfriend never wears underwear, but she also is very careful what fabris she wares to avoid excessive moisture.

What you wear — or don't wear — can help you avoid a yeast infection. Yeast grows best in a warm, moist environment: think wet bathing suits, tight jeans, and stretchy exercise gear. Nylon underwear, pantyhose, and other synthetic materials that trap moisture also make yeast infections more likely. Some girls may react to certain dyes or perfumes in soaps, bath gels or lotions, sanitary products, and laundry detergents. When the reaction causes irritation, that can set the stage for a yeast infection. Your best bet is to steer clear of perfumed products and to use mild and fragrance-free products when possible. To help keep your vaginal area dry, try switching to all-cotton underwear and make sure you carefully dry off after you shower. If you can, wear cotton underwear to bed or don't wear any, and always wash and thoroughly dry your underwear before wearing them. Don't lounge around in a wet bathing suit and avoid jeans or pantyhose that are too tight. Don't take leftover antibiotics or someone else's antibiotics if you think you have an infection. Only take antibiotics when and how they're prescribed for you. And if you have diabetes, make sure you keep your blood sugar levels under control. Do I Need to See a Doctor? Treating a yeast infection is simple. But it's still important to visit your doctor for the right diagnosis, since other infections can cause similar symptoms but require different treatments. Your doctor might take a urine sample — to rule out a urinary tract infection — and swab some discharge from your vagina to examine under a microscope. If you do have a yeast infection, your doctor will probably prescribe a pill to swallow or a cream, tablet, or suppository to put in the vagina. When you get home, follow all the directions on the package carefully. Creams, tablets, and suppositories for the vagina often come with an applicator to help you place the medicine inside your vagina, where it can begin to work. If you're using a vaginal treatment, you should abstain from sex until the infection has been treated — these medications can weaken condoms and diaphragms. All of these types of medication can clear up your symptoms in a couple of days and cure the infection within a week. It's important that you take the medicine for the whole time that your doctor prescribes. If you stop taking it too soon, the infection could come back. If you're not feeling better within a few days of finishing treatment, call your doctor. Some of the medications used to treat yeast infections are available without a prescription in your local drugstore, but you shouldn't just buy one if you think you have a yeast infection. It's important to see a doctor for your diagnosis, because if you actually have another type of infection, it could get worse if not properly treated. Also, over-the-counter medicine should not be used by anyone younger than 12 or girls who might be pregnant without talking to a doctor first. Yeast infections can be annoying, especially if they happen regularly. To help avoid them, follow your doctor's advice, wear cotton underwear, and try to wear loose-fitting clothes. Your body will thank you. Hope this helps!:)
